Forest School and Outdoor Learning

Forest School is a child-centred, inspirational learning process that offers opportunities for holistic growth. It supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through hands-on experiences in a natural setting.

The origins of Forest School are linked to the open-air culture (called 'friluftsliv', or free air life), seen as a way of life in Scandinavia where Forest School began. It arrived in the UK in 1993 and has grown from strength to strength since then.

Every class has the opportunity to experience a half-term block of Forest School, and you can view the timetable below.

Outdoor learning at Meath Green Infant School provides our children with adventurous activities and challenging learning opportunities. All children have access to the outdoors every day to enrich their learning and to develop a love and appreciation for their natural surroundings.  These experiences often involve physical activity and promote respect for the natural environment.  Through outdoor learning, our children develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to learn effectively and to maintain good wellbeing.
