Welcome to Year 2.

Now that your child is in Year 2, they are the oldest children at Meath Green Infant School and over the course of this year, will be preparing for the move to junior school. A key focus of Year 2 is on developing your child’s ability to understand how they can support their own learning and become better learners. The children in Year 2 are role models for the rest of the school, and we ask them to take on additional responsibilities throughout the year such as becoming a Playground Pal.

Your child will enjoy an exciting and adventurous curriculum during their time in Year 1. It is designed to build their confidence in tackling the core skills of reading, writing and maths whilst keeping an emphasis on curiosity, creativity, practical activities and fun.

The Year 2 Curriculum

The Year 2 Curriculum includes core subjects alongside a number of foundation subjects.

Core Subjects are fundamental as they support your child's development in all other areas. These are:

• English (reading, writing and spoken language)
• Maths
• Science

Foundation Subjects include essential knowledge and skills to help your child to participate successfully in society. These include:

• Art and Design
• Design Technology
• History and Geography
• Physical Education
• Religious Education
• Computing
• Music
• Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
