Our Curriculum Offer
Our intent and ambition for our curriculum is that it is designed to meet, at a minimum, the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum at Key Stage 1. It enables increasing proportions of learners to progress well in all year groups across all areas of learning and subjects, and attain at least a Good Level of Development by the end of Reception and meet Age Related Expectations in reading, writing and maths by the end of Key Stage 1.
Learners will receive a broad and balanced offer that recognises the importance of reading, writing and maths and progressively builds and deepens knowledge, understanding and skills across the curriculum. The offer includes a defined entitlement that enriches experience through the taught curriculum and other planned activities in school (our Activities Passport). Children with Special Educational Needs will be included in all curriculum activities, which will be adapted to meet the differing needs of all children.
We aim to develop independent, curious learners who can persevere. At Meath Green Infants we learn to live by the values of perseverance, cooperation, honesty, respect, appreciation and friendship.
Our approach is underpinned by our understanding of how young children learn and develop, especially in the Early Years Foundation Stage. As we are an infant school teaching the youngest children, we ensure that learning is active, engaging and offers children first hand experiences where possible. Teaching has a strong focus on children’s language and vocabulary development and teaching early maths and English skills effectively.
Learning is carefully planned and sequenced. Some subjects are taught through themes and topics, where learning is linked where possible. Other subjects, such as maths, are taught directly and discretely, without fitting a theme or topic.
At Meath Green Infant School, we recognise the importance of tailoring our curriculum to the needs of the learners and families in our school community. From their starting points, our learners need:
