School Council
At Meath Green Infants, we have an active School Council. Pupils from Years 1 and 2 are elected by their peers and serve on the council for the school year. The elected children wear a badge and their photographs are displayed in school so that everyone knows who they are.
The School Council meets once every half-term, and the meetings are facilitated by the headteacher. The School Council works on a wide range of issues such as:
- Listening to the views of other children in their class and sharing these with the headteacher
- Thinking of ideas to help improve the school
- Helping to look after the school environment
- Showing visitors around the school
- Helping with the organisation of special events
The school council provides a meaningful way in which pupils can voice their opinions and have their views taken into account in decisions that impact upon them. It is also a great way to teach young people about participation, democracy and responsibility.
